Mirissa is a small town in the South of Sri Lanka. A touristic place, where foreigners are coming to rest and enjoy the beach. I have been here for a month now, doing some volunteer work in a hostel. The Hostel is called JJ'S Hostel and is a really nice place to stay, the dorms and private rooms are very clean and comfortable. The hostel serve really good breakfast with fresh fruit juices every morning, the staff is very friendly.
After helping preparing breakfast we got on our motorbike and drive in direction of Dickwella, 32 Km away. In the way we stopped at Polhena Beach, a nice place to do snorkeling and see some beautiful fish and turtles. Back to our motorbikes, we ride again in direction of the main road that took us to Matara city, where we stopped next to the beach close to Randupatha, a Buddhist temple that you get access by a bridge. Matara have a nice market near the bus station, where you can get very cheap spices, fruit, vegetables, fish and triacle (extract from palm trees), very sweet, same use we have to the maple syrup.
With Matara left behind we finally end it up in Dickwella, where we stopped for a quick vegetable samosa, after that we drove 10 min to Hiriketiya Beach. Wow, what a beach! One of my favorite beaches in Sri Lanka, clear water, nice beach bars and beautiful place to do some surf. Hiriketiya Beach is a hidden gem, not everyone knows about this beach, you can't find that many foreigners because is not on the top 5 of beaches that you should visit, but for me is my number one.
On our way back we stopped in Talalla Beach, was no many people there, but the beach have nice places to eat and have a drink, in restaurants that looked like boats.
