Roti, is a flatbread originating from India. Is consumed in Sri Lanka, Malaysia, Maldives, Indonesia and in other parts of the world. Can also have a different name, chapati (India) or roshi (Maldives). The world chapat (Hindi) means "flat" which describes a traditional method of forming rounds of thin dough between the palms of your hands. Chapati diameter and thickness vary from region to region. In most parts of South Asia, there is a distinction made between a chapati and other related flat-breads based on cooking technique, texture and use of different types of flour.
The traditional roti in Sri Lanka is made from wholemeal flour, salt and water. Can be also added to the roti onion and chilli, jam, chocolate or honey and fruits. I'm in love with this dish, my favorites rotis are banana chocolate, coconut and honey and pineapple and honey. But you can also have the roti with cheese, vegetables or even meat.
If you can to Sri Lanka don't miss the opportunity to try it.
